Project Details

Tools/Software Used

SolidWorks: Used for 3D modeling and design of machine components.
KiCad: Utilized for designing any required electronic circuits and PCB layouts.
Tinkercad: Applied for simple prototyping and design of smaller components.

Materials Used

Metal: Used for the frame and key structural components.
Wood: Employed for the circular stage due to its lightweight.
Plastic: Used for the casing and non-structural components to minimize weight.

Fabrication Process

Welding: Used to join metal parts and create the main frame.
Lathe: Applied for precise shaping of some components.
Carpentry: Employed for constructing the wooden circular stage.
3D Printing: Used for small parts and custom fittings.

Challenges Faced and Solutions

Motor Selection: The challenge was choosing the right motor for optimal performance. We researched different motors and tested them based on torque and speed to find the most suitable one for the project.

Current Transfer in the Self-Stick: Ensuring efficient transfer of current in the self-stick mechanism was tricky. We used high-quality wires and connectors to minimize power loss and tested the system with different setups to optimize the flow of current.

Component Fitment: Some components didn’t fit properly during the assembly phase. We recalculated measurements and modified parts in the CAD software to ensure perfect fitment during the second iteration of the fabrication process.
